
Within our forensic firearms and weapons facility we provide an extensive range of specialised services which include:
Urgent classification service for firearms, ammunition and weapons, providing statements within custodial limits. This is a ‘while you wait' service including a statement to CPS charge standards;
Full firearms, weapons and ammunition examination service for the purposes of classification, test firing, ballistics assessment and comparison;
Scene examination including recovery of the firearm and related material in a strategic manner to enhance full recovery of all available trace evidence;
Multi discipline examination of firearms/weapons to optimise recovery of trace materials including fingerprints, fibres and DNA, including recovery from internal components;
Function testing and evaluation, producing reports on firearms capability;
Velocity testing to obtain muzzle energies;
Examination of related items such as ammunition, CS canisters and stun guns;
Examination and chemical analysis of noxious substances within CS canisters;
Testing evaluation and determination of maximum electrical discharge of stun guns;
Preparation and submission of samples to NABIS;
Examination and assessment of non-firearm offensive weapons e.g. knives, batons, crossbows etc;
We will also assess injuries/wounds with respect to specific weapons and ammunition
