Dr John Manlove BA MSc DIC PhD RFP FSSoc

John's background is in forensic biology and as a pioneer of forensic ecology. He reports on all aspects of DNA profiling, Forensic Biology, Blood Pattern Analysis and Forensic Entomology. He is involved in the training of crime scene personnel and has been lead scientist in major cases that have covered over a dozen evidence types. John has worked overseas on war crimes investigations.

Clare Edwards BSc RFP MFSSoc

Clare’s specialism is forensic biology. She trained as a forensic scientist with the Forensic Science Service, where she gained experience of interpreting DNA and body fluid evidence in a wide variety of case types. She is also trained in the interpretation of blood distribution patterns.

Gemma Payne BSc MSc DIC MFSSoc

Gemma is qualified as a Bachelor of Science in Forensic Science and a Master of Science in Entomology. Gemma is an assistant forensic scientist, responsible for examining many of the items that pass through our laboratory. Her main responsibility is as an assistant forensic entomologist and she has attended crime scenes in this role.

Kathy Manlove BSc MSc MFSSoc

Kathy has worked for the Forensic Science Service and Forensic Alliance in DNA and body fluids, and marks and traces disciplines, primarily on Serious Crime and Anti-terrorist cases. She continues to provide expert opinion and attend crime scenes using expertise in contact trace evidence, mark comparison, chemical enhancement of marks and footwear tracking.

Karen Schembri

Karen is our Business Manager and is responsible for the day to day running of the office. Karen has many years of experience in event management including the organisation of numerous seminars, conferences and exhibitions in the UK and overseas. She has also arranged many forensic training courses for police forces.

Karen Wicks BSc MSc

Karen is highly experienced in the field of palynology and, in conjunction with AFESS, provides us with our pollen and botany services. She is also enterprise manager of AFESS (Reading University) and in addition to her own research is involved in the supervision of undergraduate and MSc theses. Karen attends crime scenes as part of our Ecology team collecting the palynological and botanical evidence.

Napier Associates

Terry Napier and his company’s expertise in footwear comparison, intelligence and their comprehensive searchable database provide a second-to-none resource in this area. With a comprehensive computerised enquiry system and a willingness to work out of hours, this is a service geared towards the customer. Turn-around times for standard comparisons and pattern classification enquiries are kept low– typically 2-3 working days at present.

Anna Sandiford BSc (Hons) MSc PhD MRSNZ AEFP RFP MFSSoc

Dr Sandiford worked in private practice as a forensic science consultant in New Zealand for four years prior to returning to the UK in 2002 to work in her present role as a senior forensic scientist. She specialises in cases involving alcohol (blood/breath/urine, function of breath testing devices, Alcohol Technical Defence, Failure to Provide), footwear marks/impressions, drugs, drug traces on items, palynology (pollen) and glass. She is also an Assessor for the CRFP in the specialities of ATD and Drugs.

Professor John Hunter RFP FSSoc, and Associates

John has 30 years experience as a field archaeologist, the last 18 as an operational forensic archaeologist dealing with the searching and recovery of buried victims in the UK as well as the Balkans and Iraq. His work also includes teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, awareness and training programmes to law enforcement groups, the military and NGO's.

Professor Sue Black OBE RFP, and Associates

Sue has worked in the field of Forensic anthropology for over 20 years. She has assisted many UK Police forces with their investigations of human remains and operated overseas both regarding homicides and mass disasters. Sue has worked in war crimes investigations. Sue is involved in the Strategic Planning, training and deployment of the British DVI response capability.

Contact Traces

Founded by Tiernan Coyle in 2006, Contact Traces is the UK's only specialist provider of forensic fibre services. Tiernan has over 10 years forensic fibre casework experience. He is CRFP registered and most recently he was involved in the case of Damilola Taylor where fibre evidence played a significant role.

Robert Beckwith- Elliott RFP MITAI MIDiagE AMIMI LCGI

Mr Elliott is a former police officer where he specialised in forensic accident / collision investigation and reconstruction before entering private practice as a senior independent Forensic consultant. He specialises in the forensic analysis, investigation and reconstruction of road traffic collisions, the examination of vehicles and their components, crush analysis, and allied subjects including speed detection devices and the forensic examination of tyres.

Andrew Wade BSc MSc RFP

Andy is qualified as a Bachelor of Science in Applied Chemistry, a Master of Science in Crystallography and is Registered Forensic Practitioner. He has been employed as a forensic scientist since 1979 both in the public and private service.

Since 1989 he has specialised in the investigation of fires, explosions and related matters and carried out over 1000 examinations of this type. His other areas of expertise include the examination and comparison of many types of materials including glass, paint, footwear marks and toolmarks.

Derek Tremain BSc (Hons) GIS ARPS

Derek has personally evolved and advanced techniques used for the detection of diatoms in the organs of individuals who have drowned, having extensive knowledge and experience within the field of Diatomology. Derek is also a Scientific Expert in Bruising and Patterned Injury Identification, having been involved in Investigative Forensic Pathology for many years.

Cozart plc

Cozart plc is a medical diagnostics company which develops, manufactures and sells immunodiagnostic tests, for the detection and measurement of drugs of abuse and other substances. Cozart's products include laboratory based testing kits for the detection of drugs in a variety of biological samples and the Cozart® RapiScan and Cozart® DDS systems, portable devices used for the on-site testing of drugs of abuse in saliva (oral fluid) samples. Cozart supplies point of contact testing products, laboratory services and laboratory testing kits to the criminal justice, medical and workplace markets worldwide.

Carl Lloyd

Carl is a highly experienced fingerprint and chemical enhancement expert. He has over 30 years experience in these areas having been head of West Mercia Fingerprint Bureau before moving to the Specialist Fingerprint Unit within the Forensic Science Service. He has worked abroad as well as within the UK and been a lead assessor for CRFP prior to working on a teaching secondment from the FSS to Abu Dhabi Police.
